Dr Marie Macklin CBE has received a Business Women in Scotland (BWS) award for achievements in Innovation.

The awards celebrates the top female entrepreneurs in Scotland and 2023 marks the 10th Annual Awards for BWS honouring the women who are shaping the world of business across the country.

Dr Macklin, Founder and Executive Chair of The HALO Urban Regeneration Company has been at the forefront of driving innovation through business and communities for over a decade. With a vision to put Ayrshire’s and Scotland’s young people at the forefront of Innovation with Cyber Digital opportunities, Marie has delivered the award-winning £95m HALO Enterprise and Innovation Centre (HEIC) in Kilmarnock, putting the town on the global map for its innovative and groundbreaking approach to sustainability and entrepreneurship.

With a vision for a dynamic commercial, educational, cultural leisure and lifestyle quarter where people can ‘Live, Work, Learn and Play’, the HALO is leading the way in helping create a Net Zero future for Scotland. It provides a sustainable community approach to a mixed-use development, creating jobs, economic growth, skills development, clean energy and 210 smart homes.

The BWS judges recognised Marie’s ability to create a forward-looking Community Urban Village bringing together opportunities for much-needed employment, training and living – in one location – to support education and enterprise.
